Kitchen Project Curtin – (2014 HIA Awards Highly Commended Finalist)

Recently awarded as a highly commended finalist in the 2014 HIA Housing Awards this is a  kitchen that has been  been designed to look like furniture and to blend with the surrounding living areas adding to the overall sophisticated style of the interior.

With the use of classic products, soft natural whites, light timber veneer finishes, and honey coloured solid timber floorboards, the kitchen appears to be spacious and luxurious while still being easy to maintain and work with in – a must with a young and busy family.

Simplicity Kitchens  and Wayne Goodwin Building Services have a great working relationship due to the many successful projects they have built together, both providing quality building and excellent workmanship so it was only natural they come together again to work on this project in Boucaut Place Curtain .  Simplicity Kitchens understood the client’s desire to build a quality kitchen and WGBS knew that Simplicity would deliver to their expectations.

WGBS engaged Archertec Interiors to work as part of the design team, helping to plan and develop the overall look and feel of the kitchen to complement the architectural plans provided by the client.

A large island bench has been designed to provide additional preparation and presentation bench area as well as creating a nice separation of the kitchen to the circulation space leading into the family room area.

Above the kitchen you will see light timber veneer joinery used to create a slim bulkhead detail that identifies the kitchen zone to the rest of the surrounding interior.  This joinery wraps down the back wall to the overhead joinery above the cooktop area which conceals the rangehood and provides decorative storage to the right hand side of the cooking zone.

The same light timber veneer finish was used on all the full height joinery that houses the wall ovens, integrated fridge and appliance storage creating a nice backdrop to the rest of the kitchen.

White quartz stone was used as the main splash back to create a clean and seamless look that matched the main bench top and complements the natural white poly finish of the main cabinetry.  A feature window was also included into the design to match the line of the splash back to the left of the kitchen creating the feeling of length and space as well as giving the kitchen a nice outlook and additional light into the kitchen area.

A large walk in pantry was designed behind the main kitchen creating a lot of extra storage and overflow for general equipment and food storage. An internal pantry bench was also included to create a separate area for food preparation so that the front kitchen could stay clean and uninterrupted.  The pantry also includes an additional fridge for drinks and overflow cold food storage requirements.

To finish off the concept and colour palette, feature pendants lights with amber coloured glass were placed above the main island bench to splash additional colour into the scheme but also to complement the honey and golden colours seen in the timber floor and joinery finishes.

The final result is a kitchen that has been beautifully designed, expertly finished and loved by the people for whom it was created for.
